Our Team of Professionals

Tony is our managing director and has over 40 years’ experience in numerous aspects of this industry. He moved to Jersey 30 years ago and he has built companies from scratch as well as working for Smail and Richards since 1994. Tony is a very hands on owner and doesn’t shy away from getting his hands dirty and when the need arises he will always get on the tools to help the guys out.

Sophie came to Jersey in 2018 after 8 years in hospitality in England she came to Smail and Richards and continued educating herself on the industry while taking on courses such as a diploma in human resources and multiple bookkeeping courses at Highlands.  Sophie handles the day to day running of the company and will most likely be the voice you hear when you call us.

James has been with Smail and Richards since he was 21, he has grown within the company developing his knowledge and skills. He is currently the recognised NICEIC quality surveyor for the business. And acting as the senior testing engineer as well as works manager he also involves himself in working out on quotations and estimates for the company. Our MD is confident that James is one of the best technicians on the island, something the NICEIC have recognised for many years now.

Paddy is the manager of our Alarms Systems division. He has been an electrician for 28 years and came from Ireland to Jersey and Smail and Richards 14 years ago. He specialises in Gent fire alarm systems as well as having a general knowledge of pretty much everything fire alarm/maintenance related. Paddy’s knowledge of low voltage control systems is extensive, covering Entry and Access systems, CCTV , Security and Signalling. On the weekends he spends time with his family or fishing with friends.

Joshua is an electrician and NICEIC qualified testing engineer with 12 years in the industry. He enjoys the variety in the work we do and strives to leave every customer with a smile on their face.

Peter – Jersey born electrician with 35 years’ experience in domestic electrical works, he is our general jobbing electrician. He enjoys the variety his job role provides and taking in the beautiful scenery of Jersey going from job to job. Fun fact Peter is the winner of the 1968 baby show at Gorey fete and still has the rosette.

Alex has been a qualified electrician for over 30 years and with us for over 20 years. He specialises in commercial and larger electrical works or installs. Our MD often says Alex produces installation works akin to a master painter, beautiful to look at and the envy of those who would wish to be a skilled as he is. Alex is an avid skier and loves travelling whenever possible.

Mick is our longest running employee proudly working for Smail and Richards for over 25 years now. The knowledge and skill he has built up makes him a fundamental part of our maintenance department. We have clients who only trust Mick to be at their side as he is a thinker with much specialised knowledge on some of the world’s most sensitive security systems.

Sam has been with us for 22 years after moving to the island 30 years ago. He also spent 17 of those years as retained fire fighter for Jersey fire department which gives him the knowledge and hands on experience as our extinguisher specialist. Sam is also an Amerex Kitchen suppression system installation specialist.

Carlos has over 30 years’ experience working in contracts and maintenance departments doing a wide range of fields including intruder alarms, CCTV, fire alarms, access control and many more. Carlos has installed a lot of the works related to alarms at the airport in Portugal.  He enjoys doing new installations at work and reading at home.

Stuart is our general jobbing plumber, which means if you have any domestic plumbing work he is most likely the person to attend. He has been a plumber for over 30 years and with us for 4.  His favourite part of his job is meeting new people daily and he enjoys paddle boarding out of work.

Jay has been a plumber for over 20 years and with us for 5, he specialises in more complex issues and also does more of the investigation works, tracing leaks etc. Our MD prides us on having one of the most experienced and knowledgeable plumbing engineers on the island with Jay.

Jonny is the newest member of our maintenance department, he is a welcome addition with his eye for detail and his drive to keep learning. Jonny will be attending an Amerex training program to learn how to fit and service the Amerex kitchen suppression systems we install in commercial restaurants all over Jersey.
